Lithofacies analysis of the Permian Gondwana sequence in borehole GDH of the Khalaspir Basin was performed with a view to deduce the nature of depositional environments. On the basis of dominant lithofacies association, the sequence is divided into six lithostratigraphic units (units A to F). Five lithofacies (conglomerate, sandstone, siltstone, mudstone/shale and coal) are identified Cited by: About half of the papers are directly related to hydrocarbon exploration, and to source rock and reservoir development, but a wide variety of other features are also described, ranging from palaeontology and biostratigraphy to ore geology and water resources, covering the entire geological column from the Precambrian to the Holocene.1/5(1).

NORWEGIAN JOURNAL OF GEOLOGY Depositional facies and reservoir quality 75 Fig. 5. Petrology of Facies A with grain size distribution and total clay content. Curves in upper right corners show the cumulative frequency of grain size and total clay content, separated by the subfacies A1, A2 and Size: KB. The reservoir facies quality of these depositional sequences is drastically controlled by sedimentary regime, facies types and different diagenetic impacts on the reservoir. Local collisional tectonic events and relevant erosional features had a big role to influx the clastic sediments in the study : S. Afshin, M. Lotfpour, A. Chegini.

carbon exploration has led to a significant increase in oil production and estimation of recoverable reserves. The Seismic Stratigraphy and Depositional Facies Models textbook by Paul C.H. Veeken and Bruno van Moerkerken, provides a sys-tematic approach for the.

The 2e of Seismic Stratigraphy and Depositional Facies Models summarizes basic seismic interpretation techniques and demonstrates the benefits of integrated reservoir studies for hydrocarbon exploration.

Topics are presented from a practical point of view and are supported by well-illustrated case histories. The reader is taken from a basic level to more advanced study techniques.5/5(1). out of 5 stars Great book but there is a more up to date version- Facies Models 4 Reviewed in the United States on Decem This is a great book, however there is the newest updated version with new concepts and crisper images which is Facies Models /5(6).

The development of eolian facies models is important for understanding the likely response of desert systems to climatic and environmental change. Additionally, predictive models remain important for hydrocarbon exploration, particularly in mature provinces, where good well control allows the employment of sophisticated models in the search for.

Arnold H. Bouma is the author of Framework, facies, and oil-trapping characteristics of the upper continental margin ( avg rating, 1 rating, 0 review /5(2).

The link with sedimentology and depositional facies models is made. Some aspects of seismic sequence stratigraphy and structural deformation basin analysis are presented, but these topics will be described in more detail in the next volume of the series.

The Seismic Stratigraphy and Depositional Facies Models textbook by Paul C.H. Veeken and Bruno van Moerkerken, provides a sys-tematic approach for the description and evaluation of subsurface. The 2e of Seismic Stratigraphy and Depositional Facies Models summarizes basic seismic interpretation techniques and demonstrates the benefits of integrated reservoir studies for hydrocarbon.

Oligocene-Miocene deposits in East Ericoussa-1 The main issue in these kind of deposits is to recognize from the log data if we are in a channel or a lobe. Typically the sandier deposits act like reservoirs.

The muddier deposits acts like source rocks or even seal if they overlay a reservoir CH: Channel fill LS: Lobe sandsheets LSf: Lobe fringe. These sessions, entitled Facies Models Revisited, were intended to capture the state of the art with respect to facies modeling in several key depositional environments.

This volume is focused on clastic depositional settings including continental (aeolian and fluvial). Hydrocarbon exploration (or oil and gas exploration) is the search by petroleum geologists and geophysicists for deposits of hydrocarbons, particularly petroleum and natural gas, in the Earth using petroleum geology.

Exploitable uranium resources are found in diverse geological settings (e.g., igneous, hydrothermal and sedimentary environments) and the various deposits have been broadly subdivided into 14 categories based on the host-rock type and geological setting (OECD/NEA and IAEA, ).The various categories of uranium deposits in Australia and China and their relative economic significance, compared Cited by:   Abstract.

The study and interpretation of the textures, sedimentary structures, fossils, and lithologic associations of sedimentary rocks on the scale of an outcrop, well section, or small segment of a basin (the subject of Chap. 2) comprise the subject of facies analysis.

Recent development of fluvial facies models has been due to improved description of natural river and floodplain processes and deposits using: (1) ground-penetrating radar (GPR) combined with cores and trenches to describe modern deposits in 3D; (2) study of frozen rivers to allow easy access to the entire channel belt and procurement of undisturbed cores; (3) optically stimulated luminescence.
